Biography:

Born in the picturesque town of Harrogate, England, Richard began a lifelong journey that would take him across continents and artistic realms. After moving as a small child to Sussex, London, and Ashford, in England, in 1970, at the age of 6, Richard's father took his family on a life-changing adventure to the village on the grounds of the Burwash Correctional Facility, near Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. He and his family followed his father's ambitions to Toronto, Ottawa, Guelph, back to Burwash for a year, Sudbury, then Midemoya on Manitoulin Island. After developing an interest in drawing and wood carving at the end of high school, Richard discovered a passion for sculpture and ceramics, enrolling in the Fine Arts program at Cambrian College in Sudbury. He found mentors in Jack Tapanila and David Paton, whose guidance shaped his artistic skills and vision

Richard's path soon took a detour, leading him into the drywall trade and business. Over the next 21 years, he honed his craftsmanship and skill, consistently striving for excellence. Despite the success, the physical toll of the job forced him to reevaluate his direction.

Determined to rise above the challenges, Richard returned to Cambrian College, this time pursuing the Energy Systems Technology program, becoming one of the first graduates from this innovative program. This achievement led to a rewarding opportunity as an Energy and Environmental Coordinator at a local school board.

Richard never forgot his true love: the tactile art of sculpting in clay. About a 3 years ago, he rekindled this artistic flame, allowing his inner world to come alive through thought-provoking creations.

The juxtaposition of his inner and outer worlds is evident in his art. Each piece is a reflection, a deposition, and a sublimation of a lifetime's journey through a kaleidoscope of emotions - idealism, despair, adoration, loneliness, ambition, rejection, love, and finally realization. 

Through the transformative power of clay, Richard finds redemption in turning abstract ideas, sensations and movements into tangible, touchable objects.  His sculptures untangle and unwind to reveal his inner worlds, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the artist's intimate narratives and embrace a different, more diverse human experience. ​
